Materials for Deck Concrete footings
• 3 or 4 - 80# bags of concrete mix per concrete footing.
• About 5’ 3/8” metal rebar per concrete footing.
• 1- ½” X 5 ½” hot-dipped galvanized lag bolt per concrete footing.
• 1 – 12” X 8” round cardboard sauna-tube for concrete forms.
Specifications for Concrete Footings Deck
Note: I normally pour concrete footings after I build the deck frame, this way footings will always
be poured in the correct place. The Deck frame will be supported by temporary support posts
until permanent concrete footings are poured.
• Hole for concrete footing will be 18” X 18”square x 12” deep into soft dirt.
• Hole for concrete footing will be 16” X 16” square x 12” deep into rocky dirt.
Note: You will never need to dig below solid level rock, even if rock is at ground level.
• If rock surface is not level, rock will be jack hammered down to level surface.
• Concrete will be poured in two parts on same day.
• Concrete will first be poured into square hole about 4” below ground level.
• Round cardboard sauna-tube will be placed on top of poured concrete.
• Round cardboard sauna-tube will be raise above ground level about 3”.
• Round cardboard sauna-tube will be filled with concrete.
• Rebar will be used as needed.
• Galvanized lag bolt will be installed 3” into deck support post.
• Galvanized lag bolt will also be placed 2” into wet concrete.
• Round cardboard sauna-tube will be removed for dried concrete.
• Square part of concrete will be covered with dirt.
Notes: for Support posts.
• There is no need for a treated post to have metal post base.
• The galvanized lag bolt will keep posts in place.
• If support posts are Cedar or Redwood you will need Galvanized metal post bases.
• Cheap Galvanized metal post bases are about $20.00 apiece.
• Good Galvanized metal post bases are about $40.00 apiece.
