Materials for Deck Frame
• Deck support joists will be 2” X 8” Treated Pine.
• Deck support Ledger will be one 2” X 8” Treated Pine.
• Deck support beams will be double 2” X 8” Treated Pine.
• Deck support posts will be 6” x 6” Treated Pine.
• Deck support posts will be supported by poured concrete footings.
• Joist hangers will be Simpson 2” X 8” Zmax hot-dip galvanized.
• Beam hangers will be double 2” X 8” Zmax hot-dip galvanized.
• Joist hanger nails at face will be 8d x 1 ½” Common hot-dip galvanized.
• Joist hanger nails at sides will be 16d x 3” Common hot-dip galvanized.
• Anchor bolts into concrete will be 5 ½” x ½” hot-dip galvanized Wedge Anchors.
• Anchor bolts into wood will be 5 ½” x ½” hot-dip galvanized Lag Bolts.
• All bolts will have ½” hot-dip galvanized washers.
Specifications for Deck Frame
• Deck support ledger will be bolted to house. Bolts will no more than 24” apart.
• Deck support beams will be attached to each other with double joist hangers.
• Deck support beams will be at entire outside perimeter of deck.
• Deck support beams at deck centers will be no more than 8’ apart.
• Deck support joists will be no more than 16” on center.
• Deck support joists will be no more than 8’ long.
• Deck support joists will be attached to support beams with joist hangers.
• Deck support posts will be no more than 8’ apart.
• Deck support posts will be bolted to deck frame.
• Deck support posts will be supported by poured concrete footings.
• Note: Some deck joists may be 4” apart to protect deck butt joints from rotting.
• Note: Center support beams should centered between deck surface boards.
You do not want dirt and leaves to get trapped between deck surface boards.
Important Notes: for Deck Frame
• All anchor bolts into wood must be predrilled into house frame.
Never just nail deck frame to siding.
Siding would most likely pull loose & the deck would fall.
• All joist hangers, nails and bolts must be hot-dipped galvanized.
Electro galvanized have a very thin coating and will not last very long.
They will rust away and turn to dust.
